Choose the correct worker type. Regular-hours leave and irregular/part-year accrual use different methods. Contractual leave can be more generous than the statutory minimum.
Bank holidays
An employer can include bank holidays within statutory entitlement. They do not automatically sit on top of the 5.6-week minimum.
Holiday pay
Regular fixed-pay workers normally receive a week’s normal pay. Irregular and part-year holiday pay can use a 52-paid-week reference period.
Records from April 2026
Employers must keep detailed annual-leave and holiday-pay records for at least six years from 6 April 2026.
